In April 3-5 the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in cooperation with UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in Central Asia (UNRCCA) organized training on capacity building in the field of Mediation and conflict prevention for state officials from Central Asia and Afghanistan.
The objective of the seminar was to develop skills of conflict analysis, effective communication, and conflict settlement in the participants.
The guest speakers of the training were high-level officials and professional diplomats, namely the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Head of UNRCCA Mr. Petko Draganov, UNRCCA Political Affairs Officer Armands Pupols, first Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan and professor of the Academy Tuleutai Suleimenov, Vice-ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerzhan Ashikbayev and Akylbek Kamaldinov.
Different topics in the sphere of preventive diplomacy were discussed during the seminar including the analysis of real cases such as Kazakhstan’s conflict prevention mission in the Nagorno-Karabakh region in 1991-1992, Kazakhstan’s peacekeeping efforts in Ukraine in 2014-2016, preparation and conduct of Syrian peace talks in Astana in 2017 and etc.
The participants were exposed not only to theory, but also to practical simulation exercises aimed at letting them immediately apply the knowledge and skills they learned from the coach to real cases.
