ABSTRACT
of the dissertation of Ruslan Amankeldievich Yegemberdiev, a doctoral
candidate at South Kazakhstan University named after M. Auezov, titled
“Improving the economic efficiency of animal husbandry development: Theory,
Methodology, and Mechanisms” submitted in pursuit of a Doctor of Philosophy
(PhD) degree in the educational program “8D04110-Economics”
Relevance of the Research Topic. Livestock farming plays a decisive role in
Kazakhstan’s agriculture, serving as a significant source of food and raw materials
for industry. This sector encompasses the breeding of cattle, sheep, goats, horses,
camels, pigs, and poultry. Livestock farming not only preserves animal-derived
products but also contributes to ecological balance, agricultural practices through the
use of manure as fertilizer, and generates employment, thereby promoting the
country’s economic development. Meat production, in particular, is a key focus,
given that meat is a staple food for Kazakhstan’s population. Additionally, sheep and
goat farming is essential for producing wool, meat, and milk. Horses have uses
beyond agriculture, extending to tourism, sports, and culture. The advancement of
rural livestock farming enhances the quality of life for rural inhabitants by providing
high-quality products. Notably, the Kazakhstani government actively supports
livestock development through subsidies, loans, and other forms of assistance to
farmers and livestock producers. This support facilitates increased livestock
production, improved product quality, and contributes to the export of livestock
products abroad. Consequently, livestock farming is integral to Kazakhstan’s
agriculture, ensuring food security, fostering economic growth, and enhancing rural
living standards. The relevance of the research topic is determined by the need to
increase the economic efficiency of animal husbandry in the face of changing
climatic conditions, water scarcity and rising production costs. In recent years,
competition in the global food market has been increasing, which requires
Kazakhstan to take a more flexible approach to the development of agriculture,
including animal husbandry. In this regard, it is important to develop new
mechanisms and tools to increase the productivity of the industry, reduce costs and
increase the competitiveness of products in domestic and foreign markets. In
addition, in the context of globalization and increasing demand for environmentally
friendly products, the development of animal husbandry using innovative
technologies, sustainable farming methods and improving product quality is
becoming especially relevant. Modern challenges, such as climate change and the
reduction of fertile lands, require the search for effective solutions to ensure the
sustainable development of the industry. Therefore, the research topic aimed at
improving the economic efficiency of livestock development is of particular
importance and relevance for solving the problems of food security and sustainable
development of rural areas of Kazakhstan.
Purpose of the research. The goal of the dissertation is to develop theoretical
justifications, methodological approaches, and practical recommendations for
