preventing conflicts by involving and taking into account the opinions of the public
and experts on the environmental component of the development of industries and
territories, the efficient use of funds including by applying natural solutions,
considering the long-term effect in public planning, management.
Research Methods.
The study used a set of methodological approaches, including quantitative and
qualitative methods of data analysis, including analysis of statistical data,
documents, content analysis, observations, empirical methods of cases, quantitative
and qualitative approach in processing the results of the expert survey; biophysical
methods of mapping ecosystem services with reference to the location of natural site;
socio-cultural methods for understanding the values of ecosystem services,
document analysis, case - study method, comparative, structural-functional
approaches, correlation, regression and cluster analyses, implementation of
international service evaluation databases (ESVD) in ecosystem assessment;
methods of environmental and social conflict resolution, author's methods of
analysis, assessment, structuring of management processes, education and public
awareness.
The scientific novelty of the study is expressed in the following:
- empirically determined the dependence of indicators of economic growth
sustainability on the quantitative and qualitative indicators of natural resources;
- the classification of factors influencing the impact of agriculture on
ecosystem services has been developed;
- identified and diagnosed the factors affecting the development of the
ecosystem approach in the natural resource management bodies of the Republic of
Kazakhstan and developed recommendations;
- proposed the author's methodology of the combined strategy of research
methods, consisting of the results of quantitative and qualitative analysis;
- developed a practical case study on the use of valuation of ecosystem
services in urban planning in order to choose the most effective management
decision;
- a practical case was developed describing the factors that influence the
success of building communications in the management of natural resources,
involving the management of risks of social conflicts, the creation of institutional
mechanisms for harmonious interaction among stakeholders, and the availability of
data;
- recommendations for creating an environmental culture were developed;
- an information and communication model for interaction between
government agencies, the public, NGOs, and businesses in environmental
knowledge management was developed. The knowledge base should be available to
the wider public and decision-makers to accumulate, structure, analyze, forecast, and
justify decisions.
An economic evaluation of ecosystem services, undertaken by the author to
justify the adoption of effective management decisions in the urban planning of Nur-
Sultan, during which a combined strategy of research methods was applied, showed
