O.K. Such scientists as V.G. Aliyev, A.N. Shvetsov, V.T. Yarygina worked on the
regional aspects of this problem.
The studies of such foreign scientists as Birkin M., Weber A., Christaller V.,
Lesch A., Porter M., Thunen J. considered the issues of strategic development of
sectors of the world and national economy in the interests of ensuring their
sustainability.
Despite the significant contribution of scientists in the field of theory and
practice of strategic development, the problems of sustainable development of light
industry from the position of forming an effective strategy development mechanism
due to its multifaceted nature and complexity are currently not sufficiently developed,
which determined the choice of research topic.
The research objectives and tasks.
The objective of the dissertation research is to formulate a light industry
strategy based on international and Kazakhstani experience and develop mechanisms
to ensure its sustainable development.
In accordance with this objective, the following tasks were set for the
dissertation research:
- define more exactly the theoretical and methodological foundations of
sustainable development of the industry;
- determine the factors of sustainable development of the industry and form a
system of indicators for the sustainable development of industries;
- analyze and identify trends in the development of light industry in the
Republic of Kazakhstan;
- assess the potential for sustainable development of light industry in
Kazakhstan;
- identify directions for sustainable development of Kazakhstani light industry;

- propose a mechanism for implementing the strategy for sustainable
development of light industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The research subject and object.
The object of the dissertation research is the light industry of the Republic of
Kazakhstan.
The research subject is the processes of formation of a strategy for the
sustainable development of the light industry in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The theoretical and methodological basis of the research is the works of
domestic and foreign scientists on the formation and implementation of a strategy for
sustainable development of industrial sectors.
The information base for the research is the legislative acts of the Republic of
Kazakhstan, data from the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic
Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, national projects of the
Republic of Kazakhstan, etc. The work used materials from periodicals and
summarized materials from international organizations in the field of sustainable
development strategies.
Systematic and statistical methods, as well as methods of economic and
mathematical modeling, were used as the methodological basis of the research.
