The course is aimed at studying the theoretical and conceptual foundations of geopolitics and
geostrategy, their impact on the development of international relations, analysis of current
trends and global problems of world development in the context of security.
Expected learning outcomes:

and threats, and the ability to make recommendations on their prevention.

1. Asia-Pacific region in the system of international relations

Semester 1 (Autumn semester)
Short course description:
The course program examines significant problems of international relations in the Asia-Pacific
region, reveals integration processes, security problems using the example of ASEAN and
APEC. The most representative material is highlighted, the assimilation of which will facilitate
independent thinking and assessment of the main directions of the Asia-Pacific countries. The
course examines the process of formation of relations between Kazakhstan and the Asia-
Pacific countries and the role of the geopolitical factor in this process; The main stages of the
integration process in the Asia-Pacific region are considered. APEC and its role in world politics.
Expected learning outcomes:
Have an in-depth understanding of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region, their culture, history,
foreign policy; are able to analyze the legal framework of relations between the Republic of
Kazakhstan and the countries of the Asia-Pacific region; know the main aspects of cooperation
between states in the region; know the objectives, basic concepts of the course, understand
the Asia-Pacific region as a system; are able to compare the indicators of Asia-Pacific countries,
understand the foreign policies of Japan, China, Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia,
Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, etc.; are able to analyze the impact of modern global
challenges on the politics and economy of the Asia-Pacific region.
2. Economic diplomacy

Short course description:
The main purpose of the course is to study the key positions of the world economy in the context
of globalization, to develop undergraduates' understanding of economic diplomacy as one of
the most important tools for promoting national economic interests in the world economy,
awareness of national economic interests and the role of economic diplomacy as an important
tool in ensuring national economic security, consideration of various levels of economic
diplomacy – multilateral, plurilateral and two-sided - as an effective method of ensuring national
interests in the context of globalization.
Expected learning outcomes:
They understand the object of economic diplomacy; have an idea of the international legal
foundations of the subject; are able to analyze the activities of international institutions of
economic diplomacy that affect the international competitiveness of a country; know the
features and characteristics of globalization as an important factor stimulating an increase in
the role of economic diplomacy in modern international relations.
